Day 01 – Arrival: Colombo airport to Pinnawala

Your Sri Lanka adventure begins when you land at Colombo airport. Look out for our representative from Sri Lanka Specialisten who will be waiting with a sign bearing your name. You will be smoothly escorted to the waiting car or coach in the car park, where your English-speaking driver is ready to begin the journey according to the carefully planned itinerary.
First stop: The Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala!
About 89 km from Colombo, along the Colombo–Kandy road, lies Pinnawala. This sanctuary, established in 1975, provides refuge for abandoned and injured elephants. Here you will meet over 65 magnificent animals, including adorable calves from various backgrounds and youngsters born through a successful captive breeding programme. Don’t miss the feeding and bathing times, scheduled at 09.30–10.00 and 13.30–14.00 respectively, when the gentle giants bathe in the nearby river.
Afterwards, the journey continues to Kandy for an insight into the heart of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage.
Kandy, the enchanting hill capital, was once the stronghold of the Sinhalese kings and today stands as a testament to the enduring influence of Buddhism. Explore temples, shrines and monasteries steeped in tradition.
Admire Tandens tempel, where Buddha’s highly revered tooth has been preserved since the 3rd century AD. The relic holds enormous significance not only in Sri Lanka but across the Buddhist world.
After a full day you’ll check in to your hotel in Kandy for a well-deserved rest.
